When to play 4-3-3

Hello,

Today I’ve decided to present 4-3-3 system. It’s a system which can bring you big winnings, if you have a solid defense and a central attack very powerful. The weak spot of this system is the middle field. In 95% cases this 4-3-3 system has to be played within Counter Attack tactic. From my experience ‘till now, if you don’t have very good defenders, 4-3-3 is inferior to 5-3-2.

That because the defense rating must not be the same with the attack of the opponent, but at least two levels better. If this can’t be done, it’s better to give up 4-3-3. Actually the secret of this tactic stands in how good you can defend yourself, because the opponent will have a lot of chances, with his better middle field.

I recommend 4-3-3 together with Counter Attack to be played against opponents who plays 3-5-2, and have much better middle field rating, but their attack rating it’s pretty low. If the opponent have the middle field and the attack much more powerful than you can handle, 4-3-3 must be forget.

There are some variations regarding this system, especially at the middle field. So, possession can be considerably upgraded playing with 2 inner middle fields, and just one winger, or even just with 3 inner middle fields. Last solution I don’t recommend, but, if you have a central attack very, very powerful, then it has a chance. The disadvantage of counter attack tactic is that you can’t have a selections of the sides of your attacks, on the center, or on the wings, from , let’s say, 10 matches, in at least one or two you may have the unpleasant surprise when you don’t receive at least one attack on center.

The second variant is to play with one winger and two inners. It’s the most used solution, being clearly the best variant of 4-3-3 with Counter Attack. In most of the games, the 2 inner middle fields are enough to reduce pretty much number of occasions of the opponent. You must take care of the side you play your winger. If it’s possible to know, try to play him on the opponent’s weaker side of defense.

Last variant (2 wingers and just one middle field player), I’m using sometimes in my team, but I would not say it’s the most recommended way to put your team in the field. The reason I do it is because I’m training wingers, and it’s a good way to play the right tactic, without losing one week training for one player.

Number of middle field players is set basically, by the opponent. So, if your team can match the middle field rating of the opponent’s, it’s very useful to give up your wingers, for middle field players. So, you’ll have the Counter Attack occasions, but will have some normal occasions, too, which, regarding your three scorers may be more than enough for a good result.

But, if you have no chance to stay close to his middle field rating, it may not matter if you play with one inner field player for a possession of 10%, or with two ones, for 15%. In such situations it’s better to upgrade your defense, or your attack, giving up totally to any idea of middle field rating. It’s risky, but in some matches this may be the only way.
Good luck in the new season!
